Street Scene
The Street Scene team at Petersfield Society have had a big impact on the streets of Petersfield, both through the very visible clean-ups we organise in which our volunteers are absolutely key, but also by addressing some the issues we see around the town with the local authorities and their contractors.
Having had a constant presence litterpicking early mornings in the town, during 2025 we switched our emphasis towards working with the authorities, informing them of problem areas and producing a monthly report to highlight these, copied to district and town councillors together with the relevant contractors. We have also had a campaign around abandoned signage and the spread of illegal signage which was becoming a nuisance.

The Petersfield Society Clean-up campaigns
Around the time of the 2016 ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign Petersfield Society invested in a stock of litterpicking equipment and has undertaken annual clean-ups since, specifically targetting the period immediately prior to Remembrance Day, to ensure the town is at its best for the act of Remembrance.
Royal British Legion Award
In 2025 Petersfield Society were delighted to receive an award from the Petersfield branch of the Royal British Legion, recognising the efforts of the Society and its volunteers in their preparation for Remembrance.
This image shows a group of residents, Petersfield Society members and Trustees shortly before the start of one of our regular litter picking sessions. It’s interesting to see the mix of people in the group, many of whom have no formal ties with the Society, ranging from supervised school children through to pensioners, with a few easily recognised faces.

The Street Scene Group focuses on maintaining the presentation and cleanliness of the town.
We work with volunteers, the authorities and their contractors to ensure the town is always at its best for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
We seek to inspire and enable change beyond Petersfield. This includes contributing to relevant Government consultations on waste, and spreading the concept of the Clean Up for Remembrance, to become a nation-wide tradition.
